When other work may be needed
- Coating a roof does not correct every sheet, fixing or junction defect.
- Replacement materials must be suitable for the existing roof and exposure.
- Widespread deterioration may require a replacement assessment rather than repeated local patches.
Before you request a quote
Provide your suburb, roof type if known, when the issue occurs, previous repairs and photographs taken safely. Ask for the findings and an explained written scope. Licence requirements depend on the work; verify the appropriate contractor with Service NSW.
Prepare a useful request for quotation
For this service, these details help define the assessment:
- The metal-sheet profile or product name, if documented.
- Where rust, loose fixings or dripping can be seen safely.
- Earlier coatings, screw replacements or sheet repairs.
What to ask the quote to explain
Ask which sheets, fixings or junctions need work and whether matching, material compatibility and disposal are included.

Common homeowner questions
Is a metal roof leak always caused by loose screws?
No. Fixings are one item to investigate, alongside sheets, laps, flashings, penetrations and drainage. Replacing every screw without establishing the entry point can leave the actual cause unresolved.
Can a rusty section be patched?
The extent and location of corrosion determine the options. A repair proposal should identify what remains serviceable and whether replacing the affected section will give a more practical result. A photograph alone may not show the condition underneath.
Will a new sheet be the same colour as the old roof?
An existing roof can weather differently from a new product. Confirm the available profile, colour and finish before agreeing to replacement and ask how visible the repaired section is likely to be.
What should be checked if a metal roof rattles after strong wind?
A new rattle or lifted edge warrants an assessment of sheets, fasteners, flashings and nearby attachments. Tell us whether water also enters and when the noise started. Observe from shelter or the ground and keep clear of loose material.
